Criteria to become a volunteer
Active member of one of the following OCDSB
recognized faith communities:

○ Christian ○
○ Hindu ○

○ Jewish ○
○ Sikh ○

- Commitment of one academic year.
- Minimum 2 visits to your assigned school per month.
- Completion of volunteer training.
- Attend a minimum of one of the twice-yearly professional development gatherings for Spiritual Care Volunteers.
- Submit a School Visitor Log each month.

All SCSS Volunteers are provided with facilitated and self-directed training prior to visiting schools or hosting online sessions.
Topics include:
- Basic Expectations of SC Volunteers (Answering emails, visitor log, reporting incidences, responding to crisis calls, etc).
- Duty of Care
- Duty to Report
- Pastoral Care Models in Schools
- Creating Safe and Brave Spaces for Youth
- Listening without Judgement
- Ethics and Confidentiality
- Seeking Help for a Student and Resources Available
